Full Kite Snowkiting Near St. Jerome (North of Montreal)

Hello! I'm a US powerkiter visiting Canada for the holiday week and hoping to get my first attempts at snowkiting in. I'm a member of PowerKiteForum and DenisLaMenace suggested I post here to find local spots when I arrive.

I'm staying in a little town called Saint Hippolyte which is just about 20 minutes North of Saint Jerome, or about an hour North of Montreal.

My French is not very good, so I've been trying to use Google translate to read forum posts- it seems like there is a location opening up this Wednesday near Montreal? I got this address from the post: 1072 Main Street, St-Michel de Napierville, but Google maps can't find it. Perhaps I'm reading the post wrong.

If anyone has any other suggestions about where to ride (I'm willing to drive North as much as an hour or so), or if you're near to me and would like to connect for a session drop me a line.

I'll check back on this forum, or you can reach me at:

Thanks- and I hope to get to kite with some of you! smiley

  Hey Mike!

The spot you are talking about is about 15 min south of Montreal.

You should get very good snow north of Montreal tomorrow. But good riding spots are hard to find in the Laurentiens. Most farmers don't want kiters on their land.

Good luck!

Hi I have a cottage in St-Hippolyte and wish to snowkite in the area this winter as well. I started kitesurfing last summer so I have no clue where to go practice. I plan to practice on my lake once there's enough ice, although it's a small lake (lac en coeur). Let me know if you find good spots in the area! Thanks!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think I may try heading down to that spot South of Montreal.

@chuckali Hey cool- I'm staying at L'Auberge du lac Morency. I'm hoping that after a few cold days either lac Morency or lac de L'Achigan will be solid enough. Both should be good with some ice and wind. I'll keep you posted. Let me know if you locate another spot and I'll join you

Why not go on lake echo in Sainte-Hippolyte. I should be there today and tomorrow.

Stanko- thanks for the heads up. When are you heading there? I would be happy to meet up with you. I've been nervous about how to tell if the lake is safely frozen over, so having a local to gauge conditions would be great- plus it's always good to meet another kiter!

Well Kiteforum.CA I just wanted to wish you all a happy new year and better winds than I had this week ; )

Sadly, my snowkiting aspirations were mostly dashed this week, although not for a lack of trying. Hopefully conditions will be better when I return next year and I'll get to ride with some of you. If you're ever in Long Island, NY and looking to get a session in look me up on PKF (PowerKiteForum) and I'll show you my favorite local spots.
